In a surprising turn of events, Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State has nominated 38-year-old Omobayo Marvellous Godwins as the new Deputy Governor following the impeachment of Philip Shaibu by the state house of assembly. The nomination comes after a swift and decisive action by the governor in nominating a successor to fill the position.


Omobayo Godwin, a relatively young figure in Edo State politics, is set to make history as the youngest Deputy Governor in the state's history. With his inauguration slated to take place today at the Government House in Benin City.


 Omobayo Godwin is a seasoned Engineer with a proven track record of progressive professional experience in the oil and gas sector.


Born July 19, 1986, Omobayo hails from Akoko Edo Local Government Area of the State.


With a B.Eng Degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering and Msc in Public Administration from the University of Benin (UNIBEN), he is well suited for the role as a professional and an expert in public administration.


He is a registered member of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) and the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN). 


A thorough-bred young professional, he serves as a Senior Maintenance Engineer in Dresser Wayne West Africa Limited, cutting his professional teeth in the operations in the South South area, providing top-notch services and growing the business in the region.


He has also been active in politics in his local government, building bridges of trust with the people and mobilising them for common causes, breaking political barriers to the chagrin of his opponents.


Contested in 2023 for House of Representatives Akoko Edo Federal constituency under labour party 


The sudden nomination of Omobayo Godwin has stirred speculation and curiosity among the residents of Edo State. 


Many are keen to see how the young appointee will navigate the responsibilities and challenges that come with the position of Deputy Governor.


As the state braces for this significant change in leadership, Governor Obaseki expressed confidence in Omobayo Godwin's capabilities, citing his youth as a potential asset in bringing fresh perspectives to governance in Edo State.
