66th Independence: Oyakhilome Joins Bakare, Gbadamosi and Jafojo as Atlanta Celebrates Nigeria’s Heritage in Grand Style

Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary was celebrated in grand style in Atlanta, Georgia, as Hon. Bello Oyakhilome, APC USA National Youth Leader, joined Pastor Tunde Bakare, Engr. Gbolahan Gbadamosi, P.E., Hon. Adewale Jafojo and other prominent Nigerians for an evening of patriotism, culture and national pride.

The celebration, organised by the APC PBAT-KOH Diaspora Group, brought together Nigerian diaspora leaders, professionals, community stakeholders and friends of Nigeria at Labule for a memorable gathering centred on unity, civic engagement and the enduring connection between Nigerians abroad and their homeland.

Oyakhilome’s presence added a strong youth and diaspora dimension to the celebration, highlighting the growing role of younger Nigerians in promoting national development, civic participation and engagement with the affairs of the country.

As Special Guest of Honour, Pastor Tunde Bakare delivered a powerful message on national cohesion, urging Nigerians to rise above religious, ethnic and tribal divisions. Drawing from his personal journey, he emphasised the importance of a shared Nigerian identity and the need to see the country’s diversity as a source of strength.

The event also featured strong calls for increased diaspora participation. Engr. Gbolahan Gbadamosi and Hon. Adewale Jafojo encouraged Nigerians abroad to leverage their professional expertise, networks and resources to contribute meaningfully to Nigeria’s development.

Beyond the speeches and civic conversations, the evening showcased the beauty of Nigerian culture. Hosted by Princess Tokunbo Omisore of the historic Ile-Ife Dynasty, the celebration featured a spectacular fashion presentation inspired by the iconic Ojude Oba Festival, bringing the elegance and vibrancy of Yoruba heritage to Atlanta.

The gathering ultimately served as more than an Independence celebration. It was a powerful meeting of generations, ideas and cultures, reminding Nigerians in the diaspora that thousands of miles from home, their identity, heritage and connection to Nigeria remain strong.

From Oyakhilome’s youth-focused presence to the messages on unity, civic responsibility and diaspora engagement, the Atlanta celebration reflected the enduring spirit of a people proudly connected to Nigeria’s past while looking towards its future.
